Creepy "Virtual Girlfriend" Video Game

Typically we don't kiss and tell, but we couldn't resist spilling the beans about Konami's DS game, Love Plus. It's just too creepy to keep to ourselves.
Currently only out in Japan, Love Plus is a dating simulation that lets you court several different virtual girls. If you play your cards right, one of them will start to fall for you.
And that's precisely where things go from odd to just plain icky.
As you grow closer, you'll need to take your new fake girlfriend out on dates -- in real time, no less -- and start planning your future together. Eventually she might ask for a kiss, which requires touching her on the lips. Or perhaps she'll ask you to whisper sweet nothings in her ear, which requires babbling pleasantries into the DS microphone (and a serious lack of shame).
An interview posted on BoingBoing revealed more sordid details about Love Plus, as told through the experience of happily married San Francisco man Koh and his happily not-a-real-person-at-all girlfriend, Rinko. When asked what they did together, Koh lent some insight into their awkward relationship:
"Ok, this is pretty embarrassing. The DS has a mic and a touchscreen, so... one time, she asked me to say 'I love you' a hundred times into the mic. I was on the airplane when she asked me that, so I was like, no way. There was also this part where you have to hold her hand on the touchscreen. If you touch her hand with the stylus, you get to hold her hand. And then there's the part where you have to kiss her."
OMG! So did he?
"No, no!" he responded when prodded by the interviewer. "The girl's face shows up on the screen, and you have to touch her lips to give her a kiss. That's pretty weird.... this is embarrassing. I'm sweating right now just talking about it."
Love Plus has caused quite a stir in Japan, as some wives have complained that their husbands are effectively 'cheating' on them by spending too much time with their virtual significant others. Do you agree? Or is this just harmless (albeit a little disturbing) fun? Sound off in the comments

Universal's UK 'Couples Retreat' Poster Brings Cries of Racism by Removing Black Actors

A racially-tinged advertising decision has gone awry for the movie "Couples Retreat."
Marketers of the Vince Vaughn comedy, which stars four couples in a tropical paradise, removed black actors Faizon Love and Kali Hawk from the promotional poster used in the United Kingdom after the U.S. version used all four couples. In response to outrage over the move, a Universal spokesman said the altered poster aimed "to simplify the poster to actors who are most [recognizable] in international markets."
While Love and Hawk aren't generally as well known as the film's other six stars, it's still a questionable motive. As noted in a 2007 New York Times article, American films with black stars typically struggle in the overseas market. According to the article, Will Smith, the undisputed king of the American box office, ranks no better than twelfth when it comes to ticket sales internationally. Simply put, said industry watcher James Ulmer, "The international marketplace is still fairly racist."
However, there's good news for those who believe the removal of Love and Hawk from the UK poster was racist: Universal issued a statement regretting any offense it caused, and the studio has scrapped all plans to use the modified poster in other overseas markets.
I mean they already have them in the back looking like extras........ This is indeed questionable behavior. Where is Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson? Shouldn't they be all over this? or are they busy trying to get somebody to apologize for calling Beyonce a skank roboho????

Clevelander’s gathered Wednesday night at the House of God Church to pray for the victims of accused serial killer Anthony Sowell, whose house of horrors is just one block from the church.
Ironically, members of the congregation had tried to help distressed women in the neighborhood like 31-year-old Telacia Fortson, whose family fears she may be one of Sowell’s victims.
Rev. Catherine Bryant says “we would be very saddened to know that this young lady, this beautiful young lady who has touched us very dearly because we have known her in a very personal way.”
Wednesday morning, Anthony Sowell was arraigned on five counts of aggravated murder and a Cleveland judge ordered that he be held without bond.
In Sowell’s neighborhood, there is sympathy for the families of the victims and surprisingly, the alleged serial killer himself.
A man speaking at a prayer vigil told the crowd “ease their hearts and ease their emotions, touch their hearts and touch their temperment and I know it’s hard lord, but we begin to step to approach you Lord without forgiving him, I know we don’t want to say we forgive him Lord for what he has done but we’ve got to if we want to get to the kingdom.”
The Cuyahoga County Coroner says the remains of eleven women have been found in Sowell’s home, and it appears most or all of them had been strangled.
The number went up by one after investigators found a human skull hidden in a bucket in Sowell’s basement.
Six of the victims have been found in Sowell’s living quarters and the basement, and five were found buried in his backyard.
The first victim to be identified is 52-year-old Tonia Carmichael.
The coroner is now seeking d-n-a samples from the families of the other women who have vanished from the surrounding neighborhood.
Dr. Frank Miller says “biological relatives, preferably maternal relatives so either a child that’s biologically related to one of these women or the biological mother of these women.”
The family of Tonia Carmichael has joined the chorus of Clevelanders who are critical of police for not noticing that so many women had disappeared.
But Cleveland’s chief of police denies that cases involving people with difficult backgrounds have been a low priority.
Chief Michael McGrath says “any time somebody disappears in our city, be it a young child or a homeless person, you know we consider them all very important because they all have family members that are missing them, bottom line.”
Cleveland Police and the coroner’s office will continue their search for bodies at some point but they are not revealing when. They do say one of the priorities is finding the body that goes with the skull that was discovered earlier this week

US Supreme Court Refuses to Stop Sniper Execution

RICHMOND, Va. -- The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to block Tuesday's scheduled execution of sniper mastermind John Allen Muhammad.
The Court did not comment Monday on why it refused to consider his appeal.
Muhammad is scheduled to die by injection at a Virginia prison for the slaying of Dean Harold Meyers at a gas station during a three-week spree in 2002 across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Muhammad and his teenage accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, were also suspected of fatal shootings in other states, including Louisiana, Alabama and Arizona. Malvo is serving a life sentence.
Muhammad still has a clemency petition before Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.
Muhammad's attorney, Jonathan Sheldon, says "Virginia will execute a severely mentally ill man who also suffered from Gulf War Syndrome the day before Veterans Day."

Comedian Katt Williams Jailed in GA over Burglary

ATLANTA – Comedian and rapper Katt Williams remained jailed in suburban Atlanta on Monday after police said they arrested the entertainer for breaking into a home.
Williams, who police say is 38, is charged with burglary and criminal trespassing, according to Coweta County Sheriff's Office Major James Yarbrough.
A deputy at the Coweta County Jail confirmed Williams was being held there and that a magistrate was expected to set bond at an arraignment Monday afternoon.
Yarbrough said the Sunday night incident happened at a home in Newnan, about 38 miles southwest of Atlanta. Yarbrough said the unidentified homeowner called police around 9 p.m. to report the comedian "gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence."
Yarbrough said jewelry was taken, but did not have further details.
Williams, whose real name is Micah S. Katt Williams, is known for his roles in the movies "Friday After Next" and "Norbit." His comedy DVD, "Katt Williams: Pimpadelic," was no. 8 in the nation for sales during the week of Oct. 30, according to Nielsen/VideoScan.
But lately the entertainer has gained as much attention for criminal troubles as for his quips.
He was briefly jailed last November after New York police who pull him over for driving without a license plate discovered three guns. Manhattan prosecutors dropped weapons charges in July after running into problems proving their case.
A judge sentenced Williams to three years' probation in 2006 after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm. Authorities had arrested Williams on Nov. 6 at Los Angeles International Airport after finding a gun in his briefcase.
Williams lives in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Yarbrough said police believe the entertainer was in Georgia working on a film.
